Curriculum Overview
At Pinehurst School, we believe in a holistic and dynamic approach to education, one that extends beyond the traditional classroom. For the 2025–2026 school year, our dedicated team includes two passionate teachers for grades K-6, a literacy specialist, and an instructional assistant, all working together to support the diverse needs of every learner.
Our commitment to a rigorous academic program led us to redesign our curriculum in 2024. We chose programs that are not only challenging but also engaging and effective for all students.
Foundational Academics
Our core academic program is built on proven, research-based curricula:
- Reading and Writing:Â We use Amplify/CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts), a comprehensive program that builds strong foundational reading skills while immersing students in a rich, content-filled curriculum. This approach helps students develop both the ability to read and a deep understanding of what they are reading.
- Mathematics: Our math curriculum, Eureka Math Squared (Eureka²), focuses on building a deep conceptual understanding of mathematical principles. It encourages students to think critically and solve problems using a variety of strategies, ensuring they build a solid foundation for future learning.
- Science and Social Studies: We foster a collaborative learning environment by teaching Science and Social Studies to the entire K-5 group. This allows students to learn from and teach each other, building a strong sense of community. We use Amplify’s content to supplement our themed units, ensuring students are exposed to rich, engaging material.
- Health and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): We recognize that a student’s well-being is critical to their success. Our Wayfinder curriculum for Health and Transformative SEL helps students develop self-awareness, empathy, and positive relationship skills.
In addition to these core programs, we incorporate a variety of enriching supplemental resources to ensure every student is supported in reaching and exceeding their academic goals.
Beyond the Classroom
Learning at Pinehurst School is not confined to our main building. We are fortunate to have a variety of spaces that allow for hands-on, experiential learning. Students can explore their creative side in our art classroom and ceramics studio, express themselves on the Pinehurst School Stage, or find a quiet moment with a good book in our library.
Our specialized learning environments include:
- The Annex: Here, students engage in hands-on culinary arts classes and exciting experiments in our science club.
- Outdoor Spaces:Â Our large field, outdoor classroom, and basketball hoop provide a space for physical activity, collaborative games, and direct engagement with nature.
At Pinehurst School, we are dedicated to creating a vibrant and supportive learning environment that prepares students not just academically, but as well-rounded, confident individuals. We are excited to welcome you to our community and share in your child’s educational journey.
