Deb Evans – Board Vice Chair Position 4
Email: board@pinehurst.k12.or.us

I grew up in Tennessee, and where my husband Ron and I farmed with draft horses for 10 years. In 1996, we moved to the Greensprings community with our three young children, all of whom attended Pinehurst School from kindergarten through 8th grade, including our daughter with Down syndrome. My connection to Pinehurst has been deeply personal and meaningful.

Over the years, I’ve served on a variety of boards, raising funds, supporting families whose children experience differences, and helping create programs such as peer mentoring with Rogue Valley school districts and Reading About Me!, a personalized reading program for beginning readers. While my children were at Pinehurst, I also served on the School Improvement Council in the 2000s.

I hold a BA in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic. Professionally, I am an engaged community participant, market gardener, and Executive Director of GIFTS (Greensprings Island Food, Transportation, and Shelter). Previously, I served as Secretary of the Greensprings Rural Fire District Board, President and board member of the Down Syndrome Association of Southern Oregon, and spent many years as a draft horse farmer, business owner, harness-maker, and instructor for Work Horse Weeks.

I’ve been on the Pinehurst School Board since 2023, and served as board chair since July 2024. During that time, I stepped in as interim administrator from April through July 2024. I was honored to be named Volunteer of the Year for the 2023–2024 school year.

In my free time, I enjoy gardening, hiking, spending time with animals, and fostering relationships within our community.

My vision for Pinehurst School is to utilize small, multi-grade classrooms and strong community engagement to provide a dynamic, hands-on education that values the diverse strengths of all learners. I am committed to helping students build a strong academic foundation through experiential learning, resulting in confident, curious, compassionate, resilient, and engaged student-citizens.
