Kacy Cuddy – Literacy Specialist
Email: kacy@pinehurst.k12.or.us

I grew up in Lakeville, Connecticut, a small town near the Appalachian Trail, and attended a three-room elementary school much like Pinehurst. My love for teaching began early—I ran a summer camp for young children as a teenager and, in high school, helped third graders learn to read. Since then, I’ve worked with students from pre-K through college in both classrooms and outdoor experiential programs.

My husband, Albie, and I lived for many years in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where we co-founded Blue Moon Salvage, an architectural antique business. In 2007, we moved to Ashland, Oregon, with our two daughters, Sierra and Skye, and in 2021 we happily settled in the Greensprings with our three playful dogs.

I earned my BA in Environmental Studies and Visual Arts from Brown University, a Teacher Certification from the Upper Valley Teacher Training Program in Lebanon, NH, and a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a Reading Specialist endorsement from Concordia University. I have also completed Orton-Gillingham trainings and hold an Oregon Professional Teaching License with endorsements in Elementary – Multiple Subjects, Reading Specialist, and Early Childhood Education.

I currently serve as Literacy Specialist at Pinehurst School, supporting staff and students to help every child become a successful reader. Previously, I worked at Walker School in Ashland as a Reading Specialist, Kindergarten Teacher, and Office Manager, supporting students, coordinating interventions, and managing school operations. Before Oregon, I taught middle school in New Hampshire, developed pre-college programs at New Hampshire Technical College, coordinated leadership programs at Brown University, and even supported logistics for scientific research at the South Pole. I also worked for the US Forest Service, creating educational programs and earning two performance awards.

Outside of school, I enjoy camping and backpacking, traveling, reading, quilting, and spending time with my family and dogs.

Education should provide both academic and real-life skills, helping children succeed while becoming compassionate, engaged members of their communities. My role at Pinehurst is to support staff and students alike so we can build a better world, one reader at a time.
